1.  Checked GUM workbook page 11 and turn in 12.

2.  Presented Indirect Characterization story completed yesterday orally to class.  Have class infer character trait.

3.  Explained/brainstormed characters for  "A Sound of Thunder" Indirect Characterization Chart.  Complete for homework.  Make sure you complete Vocabulary lessons IX and X by Thursday, 10/11

4. Passed out PSAT Vocabulary List #3. If you were absent, come by for your copy.

2. Review of Direct/Indirect Characterization

3. Paired activity involving turning direct characterization to indirect characterization using STEAL:

S- Speech
T- Thoughts
E- Effect on other characters.  How do other characters feel or behave in reaction to the character
L- Looks.  What does the character look like? How does the character dress? What does she/he wear? This method is paramount when the character's appearance has relevance to his personality.

4.  Read character description aloud and have class guess what prompt was given initially.

Periods 5-7

1.  15 minutes to complete essay from Friday.

2.  Review of Direct/Indirect Characterization

3.  Paired activity same as above.

3.  Review of  PSAT Vocabulary list #2.  Students wrote sentences using each word. They need to bring tomorrow for extra credit.  QUIZ TOMORROW.  STUDY THE WORDS AND DEFINITIONS AS WELL AS THE SENTENCES.

4.  Begin reading "Searching for Summer." 

Periods 5 - 7

1.  Check GUM workbook homework pp. 5 and 6 for grade.

2.  Complete GUM workbook pages 7 and 8.

3.  Find theme in painting for "Searching for Summer."  Make a thematic statement.  What does the painting reveal about life?  What is the mood?   Review static and dynamic characters.

4.  Begin reading "Searching for Summer."
