1. Check Voc. Lesson XX; Sentences and definitions taken up for a grade.
2. Read about details, snapshots, and thoughtshots...ask for handout if you were absent.
3. Highlight with a yellow highlighter and label all the snapshots you find in your "fictional character-looking-for-a-santuary" piece. Highlight with another color your "thoughtshots."
4. Trade paper with a peer. Check the highlighting and sign your name if you agree, or write "Not a snapshot/thoughtshot." if you do not agree.
5. Turn in your paper.

1.Read "Long Walk to Forever," and answer TAKS open-ended response with textual evidence.
1. Students took notes on the definition of a clause: A clause is a group of words that contains a subject and a verb.
There are two kinds of clauses: independent (IC) and dependent (DC).

Example of IC: Mary ate a cone. [can stand alone as a sentence]

Example of DC: When Mary ate a cone, [cannot stand alone as a sentence]

NOTE: A dependent clause [DC] always needs an independent clause [IC] connected to it.

[When Mary ate a cone] , [she felt full].
[DC] , [IC]

There are three ways to correct run-on sentences:
[IC] . Cap [IC]

[IC] , fanboys [IC] fanboys: ,for ,and ,nor ,but ,or ,yet ,so

[IC] ; [IC]

Example:
Mary ate a cone. She felt full.
[IC] . Cap [IC]

Mary ate a cone (, so ) she felt full.
[IC] , fanboys [IC]

Mary ate a cone ; she felt full.
[IC] ; [IC]

2. Review "Palindromes" and "Space Junk" pp. 45-51 in TAKS Prep Workbook.

1. Read "Notes from a Novice" pp. 7-9 in TAKS Preparation Workbook (glossy green booklet).
2. Complete questions 7-16 (pp. 12-14)
3. Complete three open-ended questions, taking notes on page 15, and writing your rough draft answers on the lines provided on page 25.

HOMEWORK: Complete "Revising and Editing" pp. 17-24 ("First Lady" and "Ions") Mark your answers in your booklet and on a sheet of paper as well. Bring to class on Monday.
