Periods 1-3

1.  "There Will Come Soft Rains"  Review of Similes, Metaphors, and Personification.  Students identified examples from story to record in chart.  Students cited specific passages for participation credit.

2.  Read "Is Technology Killing the English Language?"  Discuss.

3.  Study vocabulary:  paranoia, cavorting, tremulous, oblivious, sublime for short quiz tomorrow.

4.  Study first fifteen Poetry Terms from handout.  If you were absent, please ask for a handout.  Quiz next Tuesday, Oct. 1.


Periods 5-6

1.  Discuss changes in MOOD in "There Will Come Soft Rains"  by identifying cue words.  MOOD changes  throughout the story from light and casual to gloomy, tense, suspenseful, urgent...

2.  Review of Similes, Metaphors, and Personification. Students identified examples from story to record in chart. Students cited specific passages for participation credit.

NOTE:  Late "Everyday Use" and  SAT List 4 Sentences were turned in.

3.  HOMEWORK:  Follow SAT Sentence List #5 schedule for Wednesday 9/25.
