NOTES to copy from the board:

1. A clause is a group of words that contains a subject and a verb. An independent clause can stand alone as a sentence or complete thought.
Ex: [Mary had a little lamb], whose fleece was white as snow. The words inside the brackets compose an independent clause, with "Mary" as the subject and "had" as the verb.

2. A gerund is a verb form ending in -ING that is used as a noun.
Ex:
Walking is good exercise.
Sewing is my hobby.
Heavy jogging may cause future knee injuries.

Once notes were reviewed, students composed a biographical poem from a model. Final product will be completed on a colored index card with a photo and collage. Due: Thursday, 8/26
