Antigone by Sophocles is the third of the three plays related to the Tragedy of the Ill-Fated House of Thebes. The three plays are:
1. Oedipus the King
2. Oedipus at Colonus
3. Antigone
Unlike Shakespearean plays, the Greeks performed their plays in a stadium-like setting with a circular flat area called the orchestra. The wall at the rear of the orchestra is called the skene, which is where the actos entered and exited.
Duration of the plot in Antigone is one day.
Unlike Shakespearean plays all the action occurs offstage. The actors recount events that have happened previous to their conversations and dialogues.
Greek plays were written to honor the Greek god Dionysus and for the audience to experience what they called "catharsis" or emotional cleansing.
The acting was dignified.
