Periods 1 - 3
1. SSR and LOG (Most students have turned in LOG # 4 and are working on LOG #5)
2. Antigone NOTES:
Aristotle's Theory of the Tragic Flaw/Tragic Hero
1. Tragic hero is of high social standing
2. Tragic hero possesses a tragic flaw (defect in character such as pride, poor judgment, or excess of an admirable quality) that contributes to his downfall.
3. Tragic hero recognizes his tragic flaw or mistake only after it is too late.
Aristotle's Unities:
Unity of time (play takes place in a 24- hour time period), place (has only one setting), and action (one plot and no mixture of tragedy and comedy).
The play Antigone is organized into Prologue and Parados, Scenes 1 -5, and Exodos as well as Odes 1, 2, 3, 4, and Paean.
3. Antigone: Read Prologue and Parados. Fill in character chart up to Creon.
Periods 5 - 7
1. Check Vocabulary Lesson XV (last lesson for semester).
2. Antigone NOTES: See above.
3. Antigone: Read Prologue and Parados: Make a chart with Antigone on one side and Ismene on the other: Jot down quotes to support how Antigone follows the laws of the gods and Ismene follows the laws of the State.
IMPORTANT NOTICE!! The Grapes of Wrath test will be moved to next Tuesday, December 11. Make sure you finish reading the novel and complete all the questions on the study guide over the weekend.
