Periods 1 - 3

1.  Introduce background to Farewell to Manzanar.  Discuss the American hostility toward Oriental races from 1889 to 1952, and the internment of Japanese Americans and legal immigrants after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Read Foreward and Chronology.

2.  Notes:  Terms to Know:  Issei, Nisei, and Sansei.  Copy term definitions on page 8.  If you were absent copy the notes from one of your peers.

3. Farewell to Manzanar:  Read to page 20.

HOMEWORK:  Bring definitions for Night vocabulary:  41-60 for homework grade.

Periods 5 - 7

1.  I Had Seen Castles Reading Quiz 2  (pp. 33-67)

2.  Complete Night TEST written portion begun yesterday. (Two SAR responses and one essay).

3.  I Had Seen Castles:  Complete reading of book (to page 97) by Thursday 2/7/13
