1) Warm-Up:

a) Think of a time when you shared a dream/goal with a friend. Was it realistic? Were you able to fulfill this dream?

b) List five or more childlike (about age four-five) behaviors. Share with class.

2) Of Mice and Men General Notes:

a) The setting of the novel is a farming area/ranch near Salinas, California in the late 1920s early 1930s.

b) The novel consists of six (6) chapters. Each chapter begins with a setting so the novel can be easily adapted into a play.

Ch. 1: A clearing in the woods/brush by a river.

Ch. 2: A bunkhouse at the ranch

Ch. 3: A bunkhouse at the ranch

Ch. 4: Crooks' room

Ch. 5: The barn

Ch. 6: A clearing in the woods/brush by a river.

Duration of novel: Three days: Thursday afternoon to Sunday afternoon.

Vernacular used in novel: foul language, cursing, use of “N” word.

3) Introduce Theme and Literary Device Locater chart. Active reading jotting down pg. numbers.

Periods 5 - 7   Vocabulary quiz Lesson 11.   Same as above with exception of SSR and LOG and addition of Grammar check of pp. 13-16 and reading of The Grapes of Wrath Ch. 3-6.
