Periods 1 - 3
1. SSR and LOG
2. Checked and discussed Of Mice and Men Chapter 1 questions. Worked on locator chart.
3. Began reading Of Mice and Men Chapter 2 to page 24 (top). Explained bunkhouse living quarters, the apple box used as shelving, Candy as the psychologist of the ranch, and Crooks the black stable buck, and the use of vernacular to refer to African Americans of the day.
* Offered Bunkhouse project for those students who need to replace the zero for "The Pedestrian" map.
4. Study Of Mice and Men vocabulary 12-25: confide - grizzled. Quiz tomorrow.
Periods 5 - 7
1. Checked and discussed Steinbeck Author Study question handouts. Stapled both handouts and notes. Turned in for homework grade.
2. Students checked their OMM Chapter 1 questions. We discussed the characters George and Lennie, their relationship as parent figure dealing with a childlike friend. We worked on the Literary Device Locator chart, filling it out for foreshadowing, indirect characterization, animal symbols, etc.
3. Explained living quarters: the apple box, bunkhouse, etc.
4. Don't forget to READ The Grapes of Wrath Chapters 9-10 and study Of Mice and Men vocabulary words 1-25: anguished - grizzled for a quiz tomorrow.
