1. Tragic hero is of high social standing
2. Tragic hero possesses a tragic flaw (defect in character such as pride, poor judgment, or excess of an admirable quality) that contributes to his downfall.
3. Tragic hero recognizes his tragic flaw or mistake only after it is too late.
Aristotle's Unities:
Unity of time (play takes place in a 24- hour time period), place (has only one setting), and action (one plot and no mixture of tragedy and comedy).

Antigone Notes:
Antigone by Sophocles is the third of the three plays related to the Tragedy of the Ill-Fated House of Thebes. The three plays are:
1. Oedipus the King
2. Oedipus at Colonus
3. Antigone
Unlike Shakespearean plays, the Greeks performed their plays in a stadium-like setting with a circular flat area called the orchestra. The wall at the rear of the orchestra is called the skene, which is where the actos entered and exited.
Duration of the plot in Antigone is one day.
Unlike Shakespearean plays all the action occurs offstage. The actors recount events that have happened previous to their conversations and dialogues.
Greek plays were written to honor the Greek god Dionysus and for the audience to experience what they called "catharsis" or emotional cleansing.
The acting was dignified.

In chapter 4 we learn about Crooks, the stablebuck, more in depth. He is one of the lonely characters in the novel. We learn about his childhood and why he is bitter. Due to his race, Crooks lives in a room within the barn isolated from the other workers on the ranch. Due to his crippled, crooked back, he is more permanent than the other workers who migrate from ranch to ranch. Crooks has more material possessions than the other men as well.

Students were taught, step by step, the proper elaboration of an outline. They are to complete this format for Body Paragraphs # 2 and # 3. 2) Read I Had Seen Castles to pg. 24 silently...then read out loud to page: 26. Discuss CASTLE as a symbol of the narrator's childhood.
3) Passed out WWII novel project:
a. Create a nice coversheet. Include the title, author, your name, date, period. Decorating this cover sheet is optional and will count up to five extra points.
b. Complete items 1, 11, 14, 15, and 18. Type all work.
c. Staple project sheet as your last sheet. Do not place project in folder, plastic holder, etc. Just staple neatly in booklet-type style.
